Foretravel Technical Q&A Section: Brakes Q: I have an old 1987 Gran Villa (I love it runs great, looks good still). It is a 38 foot with a 3208 300hp CAT and an Oshkosh frame (ORED). My question is I know the coach has auto slack adjusters on the front brakes, those I can see, but I'm not sure of the rear brakes and was wondering if you might know. Thank you, Herb A: Looking at a old parts break down the rear brakes do not have slack adjusters. Q: My ABS light is on; do I still have air disc braking? A: Yes, when the ABS light on the dash is illuminated, the vehicle has all regular braking capabilities. Only the anti brake skid feature is not operational. If your light stays on, contact a qualified service professional for repair as soon as possible. Note: While ABS cannot prevent all skids, it does prevent the wheels from locking in typical panic situations. ABS cannot, however, change the laws of physics. A combination of excessive speed, sharp turns and slamming brakes can still throw an ABS-equipped vehicle into a sideways skid. |
